Rough-N-Ready Advantage Example

1. On an average calves will consume 350 lbs of Rough-N-Ready during a 100 day creep season : 350lbs/calf x $/lb= .156  $/calf= $54.75

2. On average good genetic calves will gain and extra 100lbs over non creep fed calves :

100 lbs Extra Gain x $ Value of calf/lb $1.20 = $120.00  $ extra value/calf from feeding Rough-N-Ready

Extra Return/Calf  $120.00- Investment in Calf  $54.75= $65.25 net Return/calf

x # calves in herd 100= Total Extra herd Profit  $6525.00 for 100 calves .

3. Rough-N-Ready Requirements

350 lbs/calf x 100  of calves =35000lbs./2205= 15.8 Mt needed for Season

Creep Feeding Guidelines

  • Adequate Feeding Space for Calves ( 3’ of bunk /25 head)
  • Place small amounts of creep in feeders 2-3 weeks before target date of wanting calves to consume 1% of Body weight.
  • Place feeders near areas where herd congregates for water/minerals/salt daily.
  • Never let feeders run empty once intakes have been established
  • Evaluate pasture/forage Intake conditions if creep consumption exceeds 1.5% of Body Weight
